J. Roger Sumner, Chairman of the Board of Floyd Healthcare Management, Inc., has announced that he will step down from his post, effective September 24, 2012.  He will remain a member of the board of directors and serve in the role of past chairman, according to a Floyd media release.

Dr. George Bosworth, a retired pediatrician and FHMI board member since 2001, will succeed Sumner as chairman.

Sumner was appointed to the Hospital Authority of Floyd County in 1982.  He has served as Chairman of the FHMI board since 1996.

Sumner has been instrumental in moving Floyd Medical Center from an authority-governed organization with a limited ability to expand programs and service areas to a regional hospital system serving six counties.

Jerry Norman, chairman of the Hospital Authority of Floyd County, says, “Rome, Georgia would not be the healthcare hub that it is today without the involvement of Roger Sumner.  Roger’s ability to bring together different people from both the business community and the medical community is key.  His vision and guidance have not only made Floyd an outstanding organization, his leadership has helped our region be strong economically as well.”
