Floyd County Police Officer Chad Matthews has received a letter of commendation from the FCPD and is being taken into consideration for Officer of the Year following his response to a domestic call on Spout Springs Road on Wednesday.

According to the letter, Matthews was dispatched to the call just before 2:30 pm.  Upon his arrival, he began investigating the case in which the granddaughter had reportedly assaulted her grandparents.  While talking to the grandparents, the male victim suddenly said “I think I’m about to pass out” and fell to the floor.  Officer Matthews immediately began to administer first aid to the subject and realized that he was in cardiac distress.  Officer Matthews utilized an automated external defibrillator (AED) and performed CPR to bring the victim back to life after his heart had stopped.  He consequently was credited with saving the victim’s life.  Upon the arrival of medical personnel, Officer Matthews turned the scene over to them and continued his own investigation, which led to the arrest of Raven Gresham on family violence charges.

The commendation letter states, “Officer Matthews showed extreme calm in a very hectic situation and should be commended for his quick thinking and actions that saved a life.”
