HAWKS BRING HOME NATIONAL TITLE!!!

A heartfelt congratulations is being sent out this morning from 95.7 FM The Ridge and WLAQ AM 1410 to the Shorter University Hawks basketball team for nabbing their first ever national title!  The Hawks emerged as the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Division I Men’s Basketball Champions with a 90-87 overtime victory over Oklahoma Christian in the title game on Saturday at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.

Shorter University’s baseball Hawks fell to Gulf South Conference rival West Georgia 7-0 yesterday in the finale of a three game series in Carrollton.  The teams split Saturday’s double header, with West Georgia winning the opener 6-5 and Shorter taking the victory in the nightcap 7-4.  The Hawks are now 8-15 overall and 5-4 in conference play.  They’ll host Albany State in a non-conference double header tomorrow at 1 pm.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL WEEKEND WRAP UP

The Shorter University softball team completed a 3-1 conference road trip with a split against defending NCAA Division II national champion and No. 2-ranked Valdosta State on Sunday in Valdosta.  The Lady Hawks fell in the opener 5-1 before taking the nightcap 3-0.  Shorter, who swept West Florida on Saturday, improves to 22-4 overall and 10-2 in the Gulf South Conference.  They stand alone in first place in the conference standings.  The Lady Hawks will host GSC rival West Alabama in a double header on Wednesday at 1 pm.

SHORTER HOOPS: HAWKS TO PLAY FOR NATIONAL TITLE; LADY HAWKS ONE STEP CLOSER TO FIFTH PLACE IN NCCAA TOURNEY

The Shorter University men’s basketball team will play for a national title on Saturday afternoon!  The fifth seeded Hawks upset top seeded Fresno Pacific 104-95 yesterday afternoon in the semifinal round of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Championship at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana to advance to the title game.  Shorter will play for the national championship against No. 3 seed Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at 2 pm.

Opening day of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Championships is on the books.  The Shorter University men’s basketball team continues on to the semifinal round and the Lady Hawks’ hopes for a national title have been dashed after the first day of play in the tournament, which continues thru Saturday at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
