SHORTER UNIVERSITY’S MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAMS READIES FOR NAIA TOURNEY

Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are getting ready for the 2012 NAIA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.  Both will be held next Wednesday, March 14th thru Tuesday, March 20th.  The men will play in Kansas City, Missouri; the women will play in Frankfort, Kentucky for the first time after more than 20 years in Jackson, Tennessee.

Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have learned their first round opponents for the 2012 NAIA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.  Both tournaments are scheduled to begin next Wednesday, March 14th and continue thru the championship round on Tuesday, March 20th.  The men will play in Kansas City, Missouri; the women will play in Frankfort, Kentucky for the first time after more than 20 years in Jackson, Tennessee.

This is an exciting time for Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams as both have made it to their respective national championship tournaments.  The No. 2 Hawks, fresh from their first-ever Southern States Athletic Conference tournament title, will head to the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship in Kansas City, Missouri March 14th thru 20th.  And the 19th ranked Lady Hawks have made it to the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship for the third straight year.  This year’s NAIA women’s tournament will be held March 14th thru 20th in Frankfort, Kentucky.  We’ll follow Shorter University’s Hawks and Lady Hawks in the NAIA championships on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Jim Bojo will provide coverage of the Hawks in Kansas City, and Matt Davis will broadcast the Lady Hawks’ games in Frankfort.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: SHORTER DOWN ON GULF COAST FOR SOME GAMES, BERRY CONTINUES PLAY IN NTC CLASSIC

Shorter University’s softball team will participate in the University of West Florida Spring Fling in Pensacola, Florida over the next couple of days.  They’ll face Evangel in a double header this evening at 5 pm, which will be followed a double header with Cardinal Stritch tomorrow at 3 pm.  From there, the Lady Hawks will be off to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the Gulf Coast Invitational this Friday thru Sunday.

SHORTER HAWKS NAB FIRST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT TITLE; BOTH HAWKS AND LADY HAWKS HEADED FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS

The Shorter University Hawks’ amazing 2011-2012 was capped off with a its first ever Southern States Athletic Conference tournament title as the Hawks beat Belhaven 89-71 in the SSAC championship game on Saturday night at the Forum in downtown Rome.  Shorter advanced to the championship game after a 63-50 win over Faulkner in the semifinal round on Friday night.  Both the Hawks, who are the number 2 team in the NAIA and were the East Division’s top seed in the SSAC tourney, and Belhaven, the West Division’s number 3 seed, have made it to the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship, set for March 14th thru 20th in Kansas City, Missouri.  Jim Bojo will provide coverage of the Hawks in the NAIA tourney on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.
