MURPH MISSES FINAL SHOT AT BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

Dale Murphy’s final year on the National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot did not render the results Atlanta Braves fans had hoped for as the former Braves outfielder did not receive the 75 percent of the vote necessary to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.  Social media outlets have been flooded with support for Murphy to be inducted into the Hall this year, his final of 15 years to appear on the ballot.  In spite of a boost in votes this year from previous years, he only got 18.6 percent in 2013.

PLAYOFFS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR ATLANTA FALCONS

Playoff time is just days away for the Atlanta Falcons!  The NFC South Champion Falcons, who finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, will host the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday.  Kick off is set for 1 pm at the Georgia Dome.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s radio home for Atlanta Falcons football.  Air time for pre-game programming is 11 am.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL UPDATE

Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams split a pair of games with Gulf South Conference rival Valdosta State on Saturday in Valdosta.  The Lady Hawks lost by a score of 51-40, while the Hawks picked up a 75-69 victory.  Shorter’s basketball teams will return to action this coming Saturday night as host to Delta State.  Listen to Shorter University basketball on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.

FALCONS TO FACE SEAHAWKS NEXT SUNDAY

The Atlanta Falcons now know who they will face in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs next weekend.  The Seattle Seahawks will be making the trip to the Georgia Dome after beating the Washington Redskins 24-14 in the wild card round yesterday.  Kick off between the Falcons and the Seahawks is set for 1 pm this coming Sunday at the Dome.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s radio home for Atlanta Falcons football.
