The 2013 Rome News-Tribune/Seven Hills Rotary Holiday Festival Basketball Tournament is right around the corner. The 60th edition of the annual tournament is set to begin on Monday, December 16th. Area high school basketball teams will participate all week long in the tourney, which will culminate with the girls and boys championship games on Friday, December 20th. Matches will be held at Georgia Highlands College and Berry College, with the championship round to take place at Berry’s Cage Center.
The final edition of This Week In Northwest Georgia Football for the 2013 high school football season will be broadcast tonight on WLAQ AM 1410. A Darlington sophomore has committed to play football at Auburn University. Tight end/defensive end Logan Rice announced on Tuesday his decision to play for Auburn upon graduating from Darlington in 2016, according to a media release from the school. His brother, Logan, also plans to attend Auburn and will be a preferred walk-on punter in this year’s class. Both are sons of Darlington history teacher Joey Rice.
High school football playoff action will take to the airwaves of WLAQ AM 1410 this evening as the Darlington Tigers host Christian Heritage in a Class A Private School match up. Kick off is set for 7:30 pm at Darlington’s Chris Hunter Stadium. Steve Conrad and Philip Edge will have the story of the game on the radio and online at www.wlaq1410.com. They’ll go on air with the pre-game at 7:15 pm.
