ROME BRAVES SHUT OUT BY CHARLESTON RIVERDOGS IN SERIES OPENER

The Rome Braves were hoping to keep momentum going after back-to-back wins over the Augusta Greenjackets on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but unfortunately were stopped last night by the Charleston Riverdogs, who shut out the Braves 3-0 in the series opener between the teams in Charleston, South Carolina.

ATLANTA BRAVES SHUT OUT MIAMI MARLINS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves shut out the Miami Marlins 7-0 last night in the finale of a two game series between the teams (and of a four game home stand) at Turner Field. It was the first career shut out for Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy, who pitched last night’s entire game.

Shorter University’s 10^th ranked Lady Hawks softball team topped St. Gregory’s from Oklahoma 5-2 in the first game of pool play for Pool G of the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Lady Hawks hope to remain unbeaten in pool play as they take on Madonna from Michigan this evening at 6 pm. They will face defending national champion Oregon Tech in their finale of pool play tomorrow.

The Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets 4-2 last night in the series closer between the teams at Augusta’s Lake Olmstead Stadium, allowing the Braves to take victories in two of three games from the Greenjackets – the Braves’ first winning series of the season.

Shorter University’s softball team opens pool play today in the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship in Pool G in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The 10th-ranked and second seeded Lady Hawks will take on 17^th ranked and third seeded St. Gregory’s of Oklahoma today, fourth seeded Madonna of Michigan tomorrow and defending national champion, 7^th ranked and top seeded Oregon Tech on Saturday.

Finally! A win for the Rome Braves! The Rome Braves snapped a 13 game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Augusta Greenjackets last night in Augusta; it was their first win for the month of May.

In a high school baseball playoff update, the Calhoun Yellow Jackets baseball team split a double header with Lovett yesterday, forcing a third game in their third-round playoff series. Calhoun won yesterday’s first game 3-2, while Lovett won the night cap 2-0. Game three is set for today at 3 pm in Calhoun.
