The Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau has released its 2012-2013 Annual Report on Tourism, which reveal strong statistics for Floyd County. The report shows an increase of more than 41 percent in tourism spending throughout the county since 2002.
The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the preliminary unemployment rate in metro Rome rose to 9.8 percent in December, up from 9.4 percent in November. Metro Rome’s jobless rate stood at 10.5 percent in December 2011.

Kimbrel was the 2011 National League Rookie of the Year and led the NL in saves last season with 42.
Winter weather is back in the forecast for Rome and Northwest Georgia. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch that will take effect late tonight and will remain in effect through tomorrow evening. The watch applies to portions of North Georgia, generally north of a line from Rome to Gainesville. This area is expected to get freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet. Accumulations of a quarter of an inch of ice are anticipated. The majority of the precipitation is expected to fall tomorrow.
