ROME DODGES WEATHER BULLET

With all the crazy weather this area has experienced in the past year, it’s no wonder that many area residents were concerned about foreboding forecasts for last night.  Floyd County was under a tornado watch yesterday evening that was eventually dropped.  Some .22 inches of rain was received overnight at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field in the Armuchee community, according to the National Weather Service.

EIGHTH REGIMENT BAND/EIGHTH NEW YORK NATIONAL GUARD BAND TO PRESENT WINTER FURLOUGH CONCERT TONIGHT

Rome’s Eighth Regiment Band will be joined by the Eighth New York National Guard Band to present their Winter Furlough Concert tonight at 7:30 pm at the Rome City Auditorium.  Admission to the concert is free, though donations will be accepted.  John Carruth with the Eighth Regiment Band says that it funds uniforms for and activities of the band, which is made up solely of volunteers.

NEWT GINGRICH MAKES CAMPAIGN STOP IN ROME

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich made a campaign stop in Rome yesterday, one week out from Super Tuesday.  An overflow crowd filled the Tillman Hangar at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport to hear the GOP hopeful speak.  Gingrich was joined by his daughter and son-in-law Jackie Gingrich Cushman and Jim Cushman and his wife, Calista, who introduced him.

ROME-FLOYD COAD HELPING VICTIMS OF FEB. 22 TORNADO

This evening marks a week since the EF-1 tornado that hit Floyd County.  Maybe you’ve been wondering how you can help its victims.  Connect with the Rome-Floyd COAD (Community Organizations Assisting in Disaster).  They are leading the effort to help those affected by the storm, mainly in the Kingston Road area.  Chairman David Campbell says that there are definitely needs to be filled.  He says you can provide man power, sawing limbs and trees and the like, or you can donate basic necessities such as water and perishables.
